About Coach

I grew up in the desert of Tucson, AZ...so naturally I loved the water. Because of that love of water, I swam competitively, becoming a distance swimmer with multiple state titles, and eventually swimming for the University of Arizona under the legendary Coach Frank Busch. My now wife, and passion for the water, led me to San Diego. My time in the water is now much more leisurely and consists of surfing and floating. I can't quite shake the endurance bug and have competed in a marathon, several half marathons, a triathlon, and enjoy the more gritty workouts at Stratum. Now though, I get to fake being a sprinter for fun.

Turning Point

I'm a huge believer in embracing the process. Although highly competitive, I've never been an individual who comes by self-confidence easily. I can let self-doubt creep in and over-complicate particular moments. Swimming taught me how to gain that self-confidence growing up. Day by day, week by week, month by month, I loved working to become a strong distance swimmer. I saw that with consistency came improvement, and that if I worked hard enough, there was no reason not to have that self-belief. I could achieve lofty goals, and I performed well both in the pool and in the classroom. Transitioning out of college that constant training left my life. It took me a while to realize that when I wasn't able to see the fruits of pushing myself physically, I didn't fire on all cylinders in other parts of my life. That's largely what led me to Stratum. I knew I needed to find a place with a sense of community where I could push myself just like I previously had. Since joining it's been a blast to make friends, challenge myself, and see that steady improvement both physically and mentally. I'm a more confident, successful, and happy person because of it.

Motivation & Passion

My motivation for coaching is sharing the joy and addiction that comes from seeing incremental improvement due to hard work. It doesn't matter where you're starting from; you can achieve the goals you set for yourself. I aim to create an environment where everyone can develop self-confidence through encouragement, determination, community, and fun.
